Three Signs you Need a New Fridge

Broughshire Waste Metals • 10 March 2022

There is no doubt that the fridge is one of the most important parts of the kitchen, allowing you to keep your food fresh by slowing bacterial growth. However, once your fridge starts to become dysfunctional then food can quickly lose its freshness and can cause some illness if consumed. It is therefore imperative to know when you need to take your fridge to a recycling service company and invest in a new one.

Here are just three tell-tale signs that you need a new fridge!

Gone-Off Food

As briefly mentioned, noticing that your food is going off faster than usual is one way of identifying that your fridge is not operating properly. The main function of a fridge is to keep food cold and reduce the time it takes for bacteria to grow, so if your food smells or tastes bad several days before its expiry date then you might have an issue. This is a sign that your fridge is struggling to maintain a cool temperature. This could be because the thermostat doesn’t work or the condenser coils are dirty. The last thing you want is a cuppa with soiled milk, so it’s important to recognise whether your fridge is working at the right temperature.

Frost

Another sign that your fridge is damaged could be a build-up of ice. If you need to start moving pieces of ice or frost from your fridge to make room for your food, then there could be an issue. This build-up of frost could be because the door seal is broken. By allowing warm air in, the frost in your fridge can also lead to unpleasant odours and can impact the condition of your food.

Increased Energy Bill

If your utility bills start to spike despite not changing your day-to-day usage of the fridge, then there could be a problem. Fridge freezers contribute heavily to energy bills because they’re constantly

operating, therefore if you see an increase then maybe it is time for your fridge to visit an e-waste recycling unit to be disposed of. Although investing in a new model will cost you, new models are energy-efficient which means you will save money in the long run.
